Preliminary Cofan Carbon Calculations Complete
Recent scientific research conducted in the Cofan Territories has enabled us to calculate our first estimates of the CO2 that the Cofan Park Guard Program successfully prevents from being released to the atmosphere by protecting its lands against deforestation. Reducing carbon emissions from deforestation and forest degradation ("REDD") is a topic of increasing international importance. The United Nations has begun an ambitious program to fund projects all over the world with this objective in mind. The Cofan look forward to working within this network to fund their forest protection efforts in the coming years as that funding becomes available.
