When you come on one of our ecotours, you are coming into a community. This is not some fancy tourist lodge with artificial trails isolating tourists from real people. Zábalo was established as a Cofán refuge far from oil and other invasions, and community members are proud to show you what is effectively their backyard. To learn more about the Zábalo Cofán community, we invite you to watch this short video.
This video, created by Dr. William Veal, shows a part of the Cofán culture in the Sucumbios region of northeast Ecuador. These particular scenes were shot in the village of Zábalo, located within the Cuyabeno Wildlife Production Reserve, and still a pristine example of the forest the Cofán are working to conserve.
